Mobile Website Design

In 2009, an Australian Interactive Media Industry Association (AIMIA) survey revealed that more than 70% of Australians access and surf the internet with their mobile phones every day.

In 2011 that percentage has grown higher with smartphones, iPhones, Blackberries,  iPads etc. Which brings us to …

In the examples below, the same mobile webpage is being displayed – with a video embedded. It does display slightly differently on each phone, but the content is visible on all.

What is a “mobile website”?

Mobile websites are compact versions of regular websites to cater for visitors using a mobile phone browser on mobile phones like the iPhone, BlackBerry or others.

Normal websites are developed for larger computer screens, which do not resize when viewed on mobile phones, and are generally impossible to navigate on such a small phone screen. Many images are way to large to be viewed on the cellphone. Using the scrolling feature on the phone means much time is wasted trying to view a website, so the solution is to develop a smaller site. It has been found that generally all that’s required is 3-5 pages, quick to load and extremely easy to navigate.

We believe that mobile website design offering a more simplistic navigation is key to the success of the site.

Together we will pinpoint:

  • the pages of your current website which could/should be on the mobile version
  • which details need to appear at the top of each screen for better branding and ease of contact
  • offers etc to be available for mobile website viewers.

The design process includes:

  • mobile website design sitemap and architecture, using the pages of your regular website which have been identified in the first phase;
  • custom designing each page, taking into account best practice mobile web design (calls to action, click to call features, easy-to-read fonts, etc.) and mobile SEO (mobile search engine optimisation);
  • set up of unique link and access to current website;
  • pre-launch review, hosting set-up, and then launch.

What will the mobile website link be?

A unique link will be created for the mobile site, and after implementation the current website will detect the web visitor and whether they need to see the current site or the mobile website.
